Comparative experiments among different varieties

In shrinking arable land, production levels must be maintained at a constant high level. To reach this aim, the main production indicators of different cereal crop (especially spring barley and wheat) varieties are investigated in the frame of comparative experiments in small-plots, focusing on the elements of crop management programmes, plant protection, plant nutrition and soil cultivation, too.

Variety reservation

In the interests of sustainable development, alongside constant quantitative production, quality must be the priority. This means that such crops should be cultivated in even greater quantities, whose biological value can be exploited both for human use and for animal feed. Research focuses especially on ancient cereals.

Testing of plant conditioners

Commonly known, that artificial fertilizers are significantly more expensive recently, and their access is also limited temporarily. Within these circumstances, it is particularly important to understand the operating mechanism of those plant conditioners, which are needed in small quantities, due to the fact, that they have an influence on plant development, yield, plant life processes, the general welfare of plants and nutrient uptake.

Investigations of the production technology of alternative crops

Nowadays the effects of global warming are even stronger in Hungary and the boundaries of cultivation are shifting. In addition, the consumer needs are constantly changing. Among many other factors, already these two main criteria can clearly demonstrate, that currently less known and popular plants can play significant role locally in given situation soon. Therefore, interested farmers should have the opportunity to meet with such plants. Experiments with vetch species in small-plot conditions can serve these purposes well.
