University farm

University farm of Széchenyi István University

 

The university farm covers an area of 515.5 ha and is operated by Uni-Agro-Food Ltd., a company owned by the University. The land is used for arable crops, fodder production, experimental production, breeding and other crops. The university farm carries out research on about 3000 small plots (almost 10 ha), some of which are commissioned, some of which are developed for own research, some for students, PhD students' theses and dissertations, and some for other demonstration purposes.

The centre of university farm is located close to the main campus buildings of the Faculty (Vár Sqr 2) at Pozsonyi Str 4, which is easily accessible by foot. On the site of the university farm there is a renovated and well-equipped teaching and research building, renovated workshops for crop production and buildings for storage. The land of university farm is good quality arable land (average value 37,1 gold crowns), located close to the site and the town, making it ideal for practical training.

Special mention should be made of the research work on various precision farming techniques in the on-farm areas of the uiniversity farm, including plant nutrition, yield analysis, plant protection, weed control, adaptation and comparison of new technologies.

The university farm participates in the Agri-Environmental Governance (AEG) programme. Gradual students can be introduced to organic farming and integrated arable farming programmes in detail, and can learn and practise them.

The machinery and equipment of university farm has undergone a major renovation, the aim of which is to enable the Faculty to provide practical farming, education and research in line with the challenges of modern times. The development direction is clearly towards the practical application, teaching and demonstration of precision and digital agricultural technology methods/tools.

 

Smart Farm

The cost of the "Smart Farm" investment at the Albert Kázmér Agricultural Faculty, Mosonmagyaróvár, of Széchenyi István University was 951 million Hungarian forints, which was realized within the framework of the flagship project GINOP-3.1.1-VEKOP-15-2016-00001 with a total budget of 9.9 billion Hungarian forints. The investment contributes to the Faculty implementing sustainable agricultural production by practically applying the technologies necessary for digital agriculture and precision farming. Furthermore, it plays an essential role in expanding the University's modern training, research and development and service activities, and through demonstration programs, it contributes to the development of the digital maturity of workers in the agricultural sector.
